SEUIL – 15 QUESTIONS TO

1. Where are you from and where do you actually live right now?

I was born at Reunion Island, a French Island in Indian Ocean. I moved to Paris 10 years ago.

2. For those who don’t know you, can you tell us a little about yourself?
I began releasing music in 2006 on labels like Minibar, Einmaleins, and more recently Freak’n Chic, Moon Harbour, Raum Musik and my own label Eklo.

3. Tell me about your musical development: what is the music you grew up with and what are the first records that really struck you?
I used to play piano for more than 10 years, my father is a pianist though!
I learned percussions for some years too. I have a classic and jazz formation, and I grew up with the music of my island, “the maloya”, this music is coming from the slaves.

4. How did you get into electronic music?
I was djing for some years in the island but, when I came to Paris in 2001, I discovered new type of sounds and got familiar from 2001 to 2003 with all the music coming from Perlon, artists like Pantytec, Villalobos, Ark , Cabanne… In September 2003, “Alcachofa” album was released and it got me into producing that kind of music.

5. Could you describe your current studio setup and what are you making music with?

A Couple of drum machines, tr 909, vermona, jomox synths like sh 101, k2000, some modular synths and an analog mixer.

6. What have you been working on at the moment?

New eps on Supplements facts and Circus Company are just done, a new ep for Eklo too, some collabs with my friends from dOP.. Loads of things are going on to rich the new year.

7. What are you promoting and what gigs do you have coming up?

Actually I’m promoting the tour of my first album “Chamaeleonidae” released end of May on Costes series (french duo Masomenos’ Label). I’ve just toured the US playing in New York, Miami, Washington, Montréal, and Japan last week with an amazing gig in Womb.
Next week I’m going to play in Ibiza at mUmU beach party.. Nothing to complain about though ;)

8. Are you dj-ing or do you play live music?
Both.

9. Your highlight and lowlight of 2009?
There are so many, I would pick:
Up: Obama's taking the oath of office on January 20th.
Down: the disappearance of the king of pop :( RIP Michael.

10. What was your favourite track in 2009 and what is you favourite track this year so far?

For 2009, I would say Kiki - Good Voodoo (Visionquest rmx), and about this year I feel like it’s a bit early to choose but I could notice “Time For Us” from Nicolas Jaar.

11. What do you like to do in your spare time away from the music?
Having time with my 4 years old daughter.

12. What are one thing that Seuil is and three things he is not?
Aarrff I don’t know..we should ask to my daughter, truth always come from kids’ mouth.
 
13. What are you most proud of?
My daughter again.


14. What would you like to forget?
That life ends?!

15. Where do you see yourself in the next ten years?

I Hope working in the studio with Jay-Z.
