E cosa puoi dirci in merito?

Etichette come Trax, Rephlex, Hardwax, Underground Resistance. Nuovi artisti come Hrdvision, Ejeca, Paranoid London, è molto difficile citarne soltanto alcuni!

To start out, can you tell us how you got into djing and producing electronic music?

We are cousins, when we were teenagers we would mess around on a Yamaha RX17 drum machine, a DX21 synth and an old Fostex 4 track, plus an array of guitar pedals that had been gathering dust in a family attic… Rich then acquired an AKAI S2000 which opened a lot of doors. Later, in our early 20’s, we sent a demo to Skam Records saying “We will gig for Vodka” – they released our first record and we did a show supporting Altern8 in Manchester. We then moved to London and started our own label Seed and putting on parties.

How do you define/describe the music you make and play?

We write the music we want to listen to ourselves. This means our output has changed a lot over the years, as we hear new music and tastes evolve. All things go in cycles though – at the very beginning it was the sounds of Detroit and Chicago in the late 80’s / early 90’s that influenced us, and although over the years we’ve experimented with many different styles and sounds, recently we’ve returned to producing slow, deep techno and acid.

Could you describe your current studio setup? What are you making music with?

Coming from a background of hardware and sample sequencing, we’ve also been heavily into recording sounds and then post-sequencing & manipulating sampled audio, rather than live synth parts. Our studio is currently centred around FL Studio, Ableton, Soundforge, and a massive array of VST FX – particularly finding weird, home-made VSTs (they can be unpredictable, which is half the fun!). There’s always a few synths and instruments kicking about as well – currently a Juno 6, Juno Alpha, MS2000, and our old trusty DX21 (still alive). We tend to borrow or buy kit, sample everything out of it, then move onto new gear…

Where did you record this podcast and what can you tell us about it?

In our home studio in the East End of London. With a few beers on a sunny day, recorded in Ableton. It’s a selection of new / unreleased material of our own, plus some acid, house, and techno that we’re listening to right now

What are you working on at the moment?

We have an EP out on RSI Records, which is the new label from Tusk Wax. Vinyl only, hand drawn labels, with remixes by Damon Martin of Disco Bloodbath, and PORK INTL. We’ve also got a remix of LPZ out on vinyl in August, a track on a cool vinyl-only label called Rothmans, and a couple of 12”s due on Body Work Records. Plus we’re very busy with gigs and live sets this summer, as well as running our own clubnight I Love Acid

Who/what is your biggest inspiration?

Early Warp & UK artists like LFO, Weatherall, B12, Nexus 21, Autechre, BoC, Ruskin, Broom…first wave of Detroit techno: Mills, Hood, Atkins, Saunderson. Labels like Trax, Rephlex, Hardwax, Underground Resistance. Newer artists like Hrdvsion, Ejeca, Paranoid London. It’s hard to name just a few! If feels like techno is having a resurgence – so when naming the artists that were an influence when we were younger, many of them are still smashing it today.
