Ed ecco che sull’A side troviamo la title-track “Voracious Culturilizer Disco Mix” (DJ Sotofett edit): nu disco con un loop vocale ipnotico e ossessivo che canta “Listen to the DJ/hear what he’s got to say/rap on Mr. DJ/tellin’ it like it is” e ti trascina dentro un vortice ricco di percussioni e suoni urbani.

It is never too late to talk about some gems out in recent months, especially if they are true tidbits like the last EP (released on May 2016), of the Italian producer and DJ, based in Queens, Madteo. Between Europe and across the ocean, after the EP “Raveyard Shift” on the Parisian Latency Recordings and several mixes that have occurred on his Soundcloud page – his renowned $treet Promos and $treet Wax mixes as well as his last club mix for Inverted Audio – Matteo Ruzzon, that’s his real name, arrives at the FIT circuit, an important distribution hub of independent labels in the electronic music scene based in Detroit and managed by FIT Siegel, and decides to start his eponymous record label, M.A.D.T.E.O. Records, where his nickname stands here for the programmatic acronym of “Madness And Destruction Terrorizing Every One”.

MadteoThe Paduan producer gets on board on his new platform not without carrying valid companions, as the inevitable Norwegian colleague, founder of Sex Tags Mania and strategist of the sister labels and their recognizable DIY aesthetic (on Wania Madteo will release the LP “Special Offer” born from the collaboration with Brooklyn rapper Sensational), DJ Sotofett with whom Matteo produces three tracks that lay down the debut of this new journey without any obstacles or limits.

On the A side one may find the title track, “Voracious Culturilizer Disco Mix” (DJ Sotofett edit): nu disco with an hypnotic vocal loop singing “Listen to the DJ / hear what he’s got to say / rap on Mr. DJ / tellin ‘it like it is” that drags you into a rich percussion vortex filled with urban sounds. An engaging killer track able to burn even the most plastered dancefloor.

The B side is the place for unpredictability. Leave behind you all the good intentions of mirror balls and smoky basements in order to lose yourself in ambient atmospheres with “Parlour Tricks Terrific” (Psy mix), with a chameleon Sotofett as co-producer. The entire side appears as a whole in which noise, experimental and guttural vocalism arise in the wake of certain illbient style. A few seconds of silence and then “The Guiding Principle Wand” (original) is pure sonorization, the complete detachment of the A side. Low frequencies on the background, ghostly voices on the end floating in a distorted and paranoid soundscape.

Like the Big Apple, the music of Madteo is an experience of contrasts between different genres, styles and sounds that challenge conventions. Against all types of conformity in club music, the extraneous element is what reveals his richness, subverting the classical dynamics with unexpected allure but also with the integrity and artistic personality that only artists like Madteo can convey: they let us look beyond where there’s nothing new, while much more to rediscover.
