“The title Okänt Land means Unknown Country. I went to renew a passport when I was back in Sweden in April around the time that I was finishing the album, and they said I was registered in their system under unknown address/unknown country.”

“I left Sweden twelve years ago. I spent most of this time quite literally on the opposite side of the earth. There’s a restless nomadic impulse in my heart. When I’ve been back to the places in the forest up north where I grew up it felt almost like an alien land, or like I was in a dream as I was walking through it. The music on this album deals with some of those experiences. Leaving, returning, remembering; and how these different layers of reality don’t really match up anymore if you lay them on top of each other.”

“My starting point is usually an investigation of a certain aspect of a rhythm, sound, memory, dream or feeling. There is then a conversation between this seed of an idea and what bounty the universe brings when letting stochastic processes go fishing, as well as a meditative searching process through the mind-to-sound interface used at that point. The finishing point should be as soon as possible after the process is initiated as to avoid over-cooking. Spectral fine-tuning and greater architectural questions can be resolved at a later date when there’s some distance to the work.”
